About Humanism
There have always been people who have not thought of themselves as ‘religious’ and who believe that this life is the only one that we have and that the world we live in was created through natural phenomena which is best explained by science.
Many such people also believe that we can live good lives and fulfilling lives, be good people be responsible neighbours and valued members of their community on the basis of reason and humanity. Another name for this is ‘Humanism’.
Many people are what we call Humanists without even knowing that there is a term that describes exactly how they see the world !
In Scotland, The Humanist Society of Scotland promotes Humanism in Scotland and supports many of those who follow these ideals. It promotes and follows many great causes as well as enabling people to celebrate life through Humanist Ceremonies -Namings, Weddings, Civil Partnerships and Funeral Ceremonies. All of which are dignified and inclusive of those who may have differing beliefs.
Humanists believe that there is more that we share in life than divides us.
